Before you read any PCA Stadium Mohali pitch report, check which PCA ground the match is at. The Punjab Cricket Association runs two international venues in Mohali district. The original IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali was Punjab Kings' IPL home from 2008 to 2023. Since 2024, Punjab Kings have played most home games at the newer Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh, and the internationals have followed: the IS Bindra Stadium has not staged a men's international since January 2024.

This Punjab Cricket Association stadium pitch report covers both grounds. The IS Bindra Stadium has a reputation as a true batting pitch with something for seamers early, and chasing sides have won more of its IPL games. Mullanpur has swung from very low scores in 2025 to some of the league's biggest totals in 2026. All figures run to 30 October 2026.

Which PCA Stadium? Mohali and Mullanpur explained

The Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium opened in 1993. It was known simply as the PCA Stadium until 2015, when it was renamed after Inderjit Singh Bindra, a former president of the BCCI and the PCA. Its official capacity is 26,950. It has staged two World Cup semi-finals: Australia beat West Indies by five runs here in 1996, and India beat Pakistan by 29 runs in 2011. At the 2016 World T20, Virat Kohli's unbeaten 82 took India past Australia.

The Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium is also owned by the PCA and is named after the last ruling Maharaja of Patiala. It staged its first IPL match on 23 March 2024, when Punjab Kings beat Delhi Capitals, and two playoff games in each of 2025 and 2026. Punjab Kings now split their home games between Mullanpur, which hosts most of them, and the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala. So if Punjab Kings are at home today, the pitch report you need is almost always Mullanpur's or Dharamsala's.

PCA Stadium Mohali pitch report by format

T20 and IPL at the IS Bindra Stadium

The core of any IS Bindra Stadium pitch report is the surface, which previews have described as a true pitch where the ball comes onto the bat at a good height, and among the best batting surfaces in the country. Seamers can find help with the new ball under lights, and the square boundaries are large enough to give bowlers some margin.

The IPL numbers look moderate next to recent seasons, partly because 56 of the 61 games were played in 2019 or earlier. The first-innings average across all of them is about 168, but the five 2023 games averaged almost 198. That season produced the ground's highest IPL total: Lucknow Super Giants made 257/5 against Punjab Kings, who replied with 201. Bowlers have had their days too, such as Sam Curran's hat-trick for Kings XI Punjab in 2019.

Chasing has been the better long-run option, with 34 wins to 27. Chasing sides also won five of the seven T20Is here, and the highest T20I total, 211, was made twice in a chase: by India against Sri Lanka in 2009 and Australia against India in 2022.

ODIs at Mohali

Rohit Sharma made 208 not out against Sri Lanka in December 2017, the highest individual score at the ground. In March 2019, India made 358/9 and still lost, as Australia chased 359 for their highest successful run chase in ODIs. The most recent ODI here, in September 2023, was more even: Australia were bowled out for 276 and India won by five wickets.

Tests at Mohali

India have played 14 Tests here, winning eight, losing one and drawing five. The spinners got plenty of help in the 2015 Test against South Africa, and in March 2022 Ravindra Jadeja made 175 not out and took nine wickets as India beat Sri Lanka by an innings and 222 runs inside three days. That match was also Virat Kohli's 100th Test.

Mullanpur pitch report: Punjab Kings' home since 2024

Previews in IPL 2026 described a balanced surface with consistent bounce and a quick outfield. Fast bowlers get carry and movement with the new ball in the powerplay, then the pitch slows a little through the middle overs, bringing spinners and cutters in.

Results have swung wildly. In April 2025, Punjab Kings were bowled out for 111 and still beat Kolkata Knight Riders, who made 95. That is the lowest total ever defended in the IPL, excluding curtailed games. Six weeks later, in Qualifier 1, RCB bowled them out for 101 in 14.1 overs and chased it in 10.

IPL 2026 was a different story. Five of the six first innings here passed 200:

Date Match First innings Second innings Result
31 Mar 2026 PBKS v GT GT 162/6 PBKS 165/7 (19.1 ov) PBKS won by 3 wickets
11 Apr 2026 PBKS v SRH SRH 219/6 PBKS 223/4 (18.5 ov) PBKS won by 6 wickets
19 Apr 2026 PBKS v LSG PBKS 254/7 LSG 200/5 PBKS won by 54 runs
28 Apr 2026 PBKS v RR PBKS 222/4 RR 228/4 (19.2 ov) RR won by 6 wickets
27 May 2026 Eliminator: RR v SRH RR 243/8 SRH 196 (19.2 ov) RR won by 47 runs
29 May 2026 Qualifier 2: RR v GT RR 214/6 GT 219/3 (18.4 ov) GT won by 7 wickets

Three of those 200-plus totals were chased down, so a first-innings 220 here was competitive in 2026 rather than safe.

Internationals at Mullanpur

  • T20I, December 2025: South Africa made 213/4, with Quinton de Kock scoring 90, and beat India by 51 runs.
  • Test, June 2026: India made 564/8 declared and bowled Afghanistan out for 152 and 112 to win by an innings and 300 runs, their biggest innings victory. Debutant Manav Suthar took 6/33.
  • ODI, October 2026: India made 351/7 (KL Rahul 129 not out), and West Indies chased it with 10 balls to spare, their highest successful ODI chase, led by Shai Hope's unbeaten 162.

Conditions: hot IPL nights, cool winter games

The Chandigarh area has a humid subtropical climate. Average daytime highs are about 35°C in April and 39°C in May, so IPL games are played in the heat. Rain is most likely in July and August, outside the cricket calendar, though western disturbances can bring showers from mid-December to April.

Winter internationals are different. December and January highs average about 22°C and 18°C, and previews for the January 2024 T20I in Mohali expected heavy dew.

In night games at both grounds, previews flag second-innings dew. A wet ball is harder to grip, which is one reason captains often consider chasing; our toss guide weighs up how much the call is worth.
